About VendorSage
We are a fast-growing startup based in New Zealand. Our platform helps companies buy, manage, and adopt software more effectively. Today, we work with many of New Zealand’s largest enterprises, and we’re expanding into Australia and Europe later this year.
The Role
As a Software Engineer within our Product Engineering unit, you aren’t just writing code—you are building a product. You will work in a highly autonomous environment where engineering decisions are driven by user needs. You’ll be expected to solve complex problems, transform ambiguity into elegant solutions, and take full ownership of the features you build.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a Software Engineer who thrives on solving complex problems and transforming ambiguity into elegant, practical solutions. You’ll be expected to not only design and build scalable systems, but also set direction, guide teammates, and continuously adapt to new technologies.
Key qualities we value:
- AI-Native Workflow: You have an open-minded and proactive approach to using AI coding tools. You see AI as a partner that helps you move faster, automate the mundane, and focus on higher-level architecture.
- Product Ownership: You take full responsibility for outcomes—from identifying a user problem to proposing a technical solution and driving it into production.
- Problem Solver: You approach challenges with curiosity, creativity, and rigor. You can break down complex, open-ended problems into manageable parts and execute with precision.
- Systems Thinker: You understand how components fit together, anticipate ripple effects, and design with scalability, reliability, and simplicity in mind.
- Ownership Mentality: You take full responsibility for outcomes—from identifying problems to driving them into production.
- English Fluency: You possess strong written and verbal English communication skills. You can explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical teammates in a remote, asynchronous environment.
What Excites Us About You
- High Innovation Velocity: You leverage AI coding assistants to accelerate your development workflow without sacrificing code quality or deep understanding.
- Technical Versatility: You are fluent in modern practices but are equally adept at picking up entirely new technologies and domains quickly.
- Leadership & Mentorship: You’ve demonstrated the ability to lead initiatives, set a technical vision, or mentor peers.
- Navigating Ambiguity: You enjoy shaping the path forward in dynamic settings where problems aren’t always well-defined.
Tech Stack
- Frontend: TypeScript / React / Tanstack Start
- Backend: Golang / Python
- Database & Infrastructure: Postgres / Google Cloud (GCP)
What We Offer
- Premium Tooling: Full access to top-tier AI coding tools and dev-tools, 100% paid for by VendorSage. We invest in the best tech to empower our engineers.
- Work-Life Balance: 8-hour workdays (including lunch) in your local timezone.
- Time Off: 20 days of annual paid holiday + 5 paid sick leaves.
- Remote Setup: A dedicated remote office allowance.
- Impact: Direct collaboration with the CPTO and a tight-knit engineering team.
